What is a facedown card?
A facedown card (as opposed to a faceup card) is a card that is turned over on the table so that its identity is hidden.
In most card games, cards are dealt facedown so that other players cannot see what cards each player will have in their hand. Additionally, many card games contain a draw-pile in the center of the table which contain a stack of facedown cards. Again, like the deal, the draw-pile contains facedown cards so players do not know what cards they will draw from it.
In 4 Seasons of War, facedown cards are used in the Alternate version of the game (that is, the version that requires players to keep their cards hidden from one another). In the Alternate version, any tricks that are won during a hand are placed facedown next to the player to be used in the next round of play (as opposed to being placed faceup, which is the case for all other versions of 4 Seasons).
