What is a hand?
In a card game, a hand typically refers to one of two things:
In regard to the first definition from above, the card game 4 Seasons of War is divided into multiple hands. During each hand there is a different trump suit. The trumps cycle in a predictable pattern: hearts, spades, diamonds, clubs, (repeat) hearts, spades...cont. In other words, during the 1st hand–hearts are trump; 2nd hand–spades; 3rd–diamonds; 4th–clubs; (repeat) 5th–hearts; 6th–spades...cont.
In regard to the second definition from above, each player in the game 4 Seasons begins with an identical hand–a jack, queen, king, and sometimes an ace (depending on the number of players) in each of the four suits. Unlike most card games, in 4 Seasons, players lay their hand on the table faceup for all to see.
